Joburg motorists cautioned to prepare for expected road closures
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has cautioned motorists and residents of Johannesburg to prepare for temporary road closures and intermittent traffic disruptions.
This as multiple law enforcement agencies conduct a joint traffic operation ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit taking place next weekend.
The coordinated exercise will take place on Saturday from 09:00 until 13:00.
Major national and regional routes such as the N1, M1, and N12 will be affected.
Arterial and urban routes affected include Rivonia Road, Grayston Drive, Rand Show Road, Nasrec Road and the Golden Highway.
JMPD Spokesperson Xolani Fihla has provided motorists with alternative routes: “In the area of Roodepoort, they can use Beyers Naudé Drive, Christian de Wet Road or Ontdekkers Road instead of Hendrik Potgieter Road. Within the Fourways area, they can use Main Road, Cedar Road and Witkoppen Road. And in Sandton, Rosebank and Parktown, use side streets parallel to Jan Smuts Avenue, Oxford Road and Rivonia Road. That’s routes such as Kohler Drive, parts of Sandton Drive and 11th Avenue. And in the southern part of Johannesburg, use Chris Hani Road, Main Reef Road, Crownwood Road, Soweto Highway, the N17 and Adcock Ingram Road.”
