Marking of 2025 matric exams begins in KwaZulu-Natal
Marking for the 2025 matric examinations is set to begin at 32 centres across KwaZulu-Natal, with officials calling on educators to maintain professionalism and prioritise their well-being as the province enters the final phase of the National Senior Certificate exam cycle.
KwaZulu-Natal Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said the MEC Sipho Hlomuka “congratulates the majority of the learners that have completed their writing of exams,” with the last papers scheduled to conclude on 27 November.
He said the department wishes strength to the thousands of markers appointed across the province and reminded them of the importance of managing the demands of the period.
Mahlambi said the MEC had urged that markers ensure that they care of their well-being during the marking period especially those on chronic medication.
With marking taking place in the height of summer, he also noted the need for caution regarding health and food logistics.
He confirmed that the MEC will visit some of the marking centres and emphasised that every script represents a learner whose effort deserves careful consideration.
“In front of you, there sits a script, but that script represents a learner that whenever you engage with that script, you must have that in mind.”
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) in KwaZulu-Natal also acknowledged the significance of the week, with Provincial Secretary Nomarashiya Caluza noting that it marks “the final stretch of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.”
Caluza commended teachers and support staff who are still overseeing the remaining exams.
“Many of our dedicated teachers, invigilators, and administrative staff are still in the trenches, ensuring the last papers are administered with the integrity and smoothness that has defined this session.”
She encouraged learners to maintain their momentum as they approach the final days of writing.
“Stay focused and finish strong! You are almost at the finish line.” Caluza thanked education personnel for their dedication, saying their “unwavering commitment, long hours, and profound professionalism have been the backbone of this entire process.”
“This last push is a testament to your resilience,” she said, adding that the union looks forward to “celebrating the fruits of this collective labour.”
Caluza concluded, “We wish every learner the very best of success.”
