Two men arrested in W. Cape for possession of tik and mandrax drugs

A 44-year-old man was arrested for the possession of drugs in Lwandle, Strand, after law enforcement officers found a stash of drugs at his home.
Metro police say officers accompanied him home after he could not produce a relevant ID, during a routine traffic stop. They were given permission to search his premises and found a plastic bag containing 54 grams of tik and 603 Mandrax tablets hidden behind a fridge.
In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man was arrested in Bellville, when officers on foot patrol found nearly 600 mandrax tablets in his backpack.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says many of their recent successes involved confiscating large quantities from individuals.
“But the time has come for the city to do more. With expanded policing powers, we can begin clamping down on the syndicates that supply these dealers. We are continually reducing the availability of illicit substances through our enforcement efforts, but we can go further to disrupt the criminal networks that prey on the vulnerable. The same gangs that are selling drugs are fuelling the gang violence in our communities, and by shutting down these networks, we can make our streets and communities safer if given the opportunity,” says Smith.
