Cat Matlala’s testimony before Ad Hoc Committee is vital: Ntuli
African National Congress Chief Whip and member of the Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee looking into claims of police infiltration and corruption, Mdumiseni Ntuli, says Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala’s testimony is vital.
Ntuli’s remark comes ahead of the committee’s visit to Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria this week.
Matlala is currently in prison, awaiting trial on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder. He is also at the centre of allegations of police infiltration and corruption within the justice system.
Matlala allegedly conspired to disband the Political Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal along with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is on special leave.
Matlala is expected to testify from Wednesday until Friday.
“Matlala’s name was very prominent in that list because of his dealings with the South African Police, but equally because of how we are told he was involved in some of the activities that have to do with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. So, he is a very central witness in our view, for us really to determine the veracity of these grave allegations that were made by Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi,” says Ntuli.
