Convicted serial rapist Sihle Makaula sentenced to four life terms

The NPA says a serial rapist from the Western Cape has been handed four life sentences in the High Court in Cape Town after DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.

NPA Spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, says Sihle Makaula, was convicted on a count of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, four counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and four counts of rape, including the rape of a minor.

Ntabazalila says the NPA welcomes the sentence as the country begins the 16 Days of Activism Campaign for No Violence Against Women and Children.

“The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, effectively sentencing the accused to life imprisonment. The court declared him unfit to possess a firearm. These crimes happened in Siyanyanzela Informal Settlement, Grabouw, on 29 July 2019 when the 27-year-old started his reign of terror against the unsuspecting victims.”
