Gauteng activates contingency plans after hospital food supply halt
The Gauteng Health Department says it has put contingency plans in place after hospital food supplies from the Masakhane Cook Freeze factory were stopped.
This follows the discovery of e.coli contamination in the factory’s water supply during a City of Tshwane inspection.
The factory supplies meals to several major hospitals, including Charlotte Maxeke, Odi, Tshwane District, Bronkhorstspruit, Jubilee, and Lenasia South.
The department’s MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says no illnesses have been reported so far.
“I want to reassure the people of Gauteng that our hospitals have activated contingency plans to ensure that patients continue to receive their daily meals. This includes the provision of alternative nutritional meal options that are prepared carefully by the hospitals’ food service teams. At the moment, we do not have a specific timeline as by when the Cook Freeze factory will resume full operations.”
MEC for Health and Wellness, @NkomoNomantu, briefed the media on contingency measures following the temporary closure of the Masakhane CookFreeze factory.
