I didn’t know about the hospital tender: Matlala
Attempted murder accused and alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala says he does not have a relationship with murder accused Katiso “KT” Molefe.
He is testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility in Pretoria where he is incarcerated.
On Tuesday, his lawyers’ attempts to get a postponement were unsuccessful.
They argued, among other things, that Matlala’s incarceration had negatively affected his mental health.
Evidence leader Advocate Norman Arendse asked: “Did you develop a personal relationship with Mr Molefe?”
Matlala replied: “No.”
Arendse: “You didn’t provide him with VIP protection?”
Matlala: “No, I never.”
Arendse: “It was reported in News24, you would be aware of this article that you had secured some premises in January 2024, premises with the hospital which houses the South African Police Services College?”
Matlala: “Yes”
Arendse: “And it was alleged that the reason why you leased these premises was anticipation that you knew you would be awarded, the much-talked-about tender.
Matlala: “That hospital, I have been trying to secure the lease for the past three years, so when they say I knew about the tender, for me, when they say I knew about the tender does not add up.”
