Matlala to testify before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee
Businessman and crime accused Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala is expected to testify before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on Wednesday after his lawyers’ unsuccessful request for a postponement.
The lawyers cited various challenges that have hindered adequate preparation for the hearing, including the complexities surrounding Matlala’s current detention.
Matlala is incarcerated at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility in Pretoria, from where he’s set to testify before the committee.
He is a central figure in KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations of criminal infiltration and corruption in the country’s justice system.
Meanwhile, the South African Police Service Chief Financial Officer, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, says she is not responsible for the awarding of tenders and operational financial disbursements.
On Tuesday, Dimpane told the Ad Hoc Committee that operational decisions are taken by relevant managers.
“While I oversee financial operations, it is crucial to understand that my role does not include operational decisions. Operational decisions are taken by the relevant managers who are responsible for operations and ultimately with the national commissioner.”
“I am not responsible for contract awards or I don’t have any direct involvement in supply chain management prior to the recent changes in terms of the structural changes.”
