PP to investigate President over alleged violations of Executive Code of Conduct

Public Protector, Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka will investigate President Cyril Ramaphosa over claims of alleged violations of the Executive Code of Conduct.

The claims that were brought forward to the Public Protector by the official opposition, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, are in relation to potential breaches of clauses pertaining to among others; the abuse of power, improper conduct, acting inconsistently with executive responsibilities and failure to act in the best interests of the Republic.

The party has welcomed the decision by the Chapter Nine institution saying that this development marks a significant step towards securing accountability for what they call persistent ethical failures that have characterised the President’s tenure.

The party’s spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela elaborates, “This development marks a significant step towards securing accountability for the persistent ethical failures that have characterised by Cyril Ramaphosa’s tenure, from the Phala Phala scandal, to the steady erosion of the oversight institutions and the alleged misuse of state apparatus to protect himself and his close associates. The MK Party regards this investigation as essential to restoring credibility to the highest office of the Republic and as MK Party, we will ensure that we defend the constitutional democracy and therefore ensure that no individual, including the sitting president, is placed above the law.”
