Witness at Ad Hoc Committee investigating NW Premier refutes allegations made by Mayor Groep
Mothusi Montwedi, the third witness at the North West Legislature’s Ad-Hoc Committee investigating allegations of improper conduct of Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, has refuted the testimony that was made by the Mayor of the Naledi Local Municipality, Clifton Groep earlier this week.
Groep told the Committee that Montwedi called him on behalf of Mokgosi to caution him against appealing a North West High Court ruling, that set aside the appointment of Modisenyane Segapo as the municipal manager, because the applicants had no money to pay their lawyers.
The committee’s probe stems from allegations levelled by Groep, that Mokgosi interfered in the recruitment process of the municipal manager.
Montwedi, who is an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of the National Assembly, accused Groep of involving him in the ANC’s internal squabbles by being selective about their personal conversation to push his own narrative.
“Selectively Mayor Groep wants to bring me into their own ANC factional battles. When I had a genuine interaction with him as a person that I know. And it was not even the first time that I have ever interacted with him. I found that offensive because when I spoke to him. I did not speak to him officially as a Member of Parliament. So, why does he selectively have to choose when it is personal, and when it is officially for him to mention me with my capacity as a Member of Parliament.”
