Hawks raid home of FS police detective, seize DNA samples, dockets
The Hawks in the Free State have seized various SAPS exhibit bags containing used buccal DNA samples, police dockets that are not yet finalised, police registers, ammunition and cellphones from the house of a police detective.
Hawks Spokesperson Fikiswa Matoti says the suspect is a 58-year-old detective attached to the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit at Fouriesburg.
Buccal swabs are those taken from inside a person’s cheek.
Matoti says the arrest follows intelligence received.
“This is the second arrest of the same officer this month after an unlicensed firearm was discovered at his home. The detective was arrested, appeared in court and was released on bail. He will appear before the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court soon for alleged illegal possession of ammunition and suspected stolen property.”
