Internal audit report cleared Mkhwanazi of blue light sage involvement: Mashazi
Retired Ekurhuleni City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi has testified that an internal audit report cleared the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s (EMPD) Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi.
This is despite an Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) report, which recommended that Mkhwanazi, who has been suspended, must be charged and disciplined in connection with the blue lights saga.
Evidence before the Madlanga Commission has revealed that Mkhwanazi unlawfully signed MOUs with Cat VIP to unlawfully fit the blue lights in Matlala’s private vehicles.

Mashazi says she did not participate in the suspension of Julius Mkhwanazi, nor in the lifting of the suspension.
She adds that she received an opinion from Adv. Kemi Behari that the IPID report was vague and that no action would be taken, which is why Julius Mkhwanazi was cleared.
