Hawks member, Tembisa hospital official to apply for bail
A member of the Hawks, Papie Tsie, and a Tembisa Hospital official, Zacharia Chisele, are expected to apply for bail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
They are facing corruption charges.
Tsie and Chisele allegedly attempted to bribe a Hawks officer who is part of a team that is investigating corruption allegations at Tembisa Hospital.
They were arrested last week after allegedly paying the investigating officer a bribe of R100 000.
The officer had been planning to arrest the accused as soon as the transaction was completed.
Hawks spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says that more cases relating to corruption are being investigated at the hospital.
“The decision of adding other charges will be taken by the DPP as and when investigations continue, but at this stage, there are other investigations relating to Tembisa Hospital. We have another matter that we have placed before the DPP that is awaiting decision so we are confident that these investigations are going very well; others are at a stage where they will be also placed.”
Mbambo adds, “However, this incident is not going to deter these investigations. We can assure the public that all those involved will be brought before the court of law.”
