Mother's boyfriend sentenced to two life terms in prison for raping Seshego teenager
The Seshego Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to two life imprisonment terms after he was found guilty of raping his girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the rape incidents happened on two separate occasions in 2021.
“The incidents occurred at the victim’s mother’s residence in Seshego, where the accused, who was the mother’s boyfriend at the time, targeted the child while she was preparing for school,” said Ledwaba.
“The accused committed the heinous acts while the victim’s mother was in another room of the house. He threatened the child not to disclose the abuse to her mother or anyone else.”
The brave young victim eventually reported the incidents to a motivational speaker invited to her school.
A school official assisted in ensuring the matter was brought to the attention of the child’s mother, who immediately reported it to the police.
“A case of rape was opened at Seshego police station in November 2022 and subsequently transferred to the Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Nation Teffo, who conducted a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of the accused,” said Ledwaba.
Following his arrest, the 34-year-old man appeared before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court.
On 26 November 2025, he was found guilty and sentenced to two life imprisonment terms – one for each count of rape.
In addition to the life sentences, the court declared the 34-year-old man unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentence and commended the investigating officer and the prosecution team “for their dedication to securing justice for the victim”.
