Japanese club makes giant offer for Siya

Sharks loose forward Siya Kolisi could be the next Springbok to head to Japan.

According to RugbyPass, the two-time World Cup-winning captain is on the radar of Japan Rugby League One side the Kobelco Kobe Steelers.

Kolisi reportedly came close to signing for the Tokyo Sungoliath after the 2023 World Cup triumph, before a late change of plans saw him join Racing 92 instead.

Kolisi’s stint in Paris proved short-lived. After struggling for game time – and following criticism from Racing president Jacky Lorenzetti, who labelled the Bok skipper “invisible” – he returned to Durban.

That move was made possible by American businessman Vincent Mai, who paid the R17-million release fee to terminate his Racing contract.

A switch to Japan would place Kolisi among a growing list of Springboks now based there, including Cheslin Kolbe, Damian de Allende, Faf de Klerk, Jesse Kriel, Malcolm Marx, Kwagga Smith, Manie Libbok and Lukhanyo Am.
