Bok scrummie set to leave Sharks

The Sharks are having to start thinking about life beyond one of their Springbok scrumhalves.

Netwerk24 is reporting that Grant Williams is expected to continue his career overseas after his contract expires in June next year. It’s a major shift for Durban’s backline planning, given that Williams has been a fixture at Kings Park since 2018.

A product of Paarl Gimnasium, Williams has grown into one of the most dynamic No 9s in South Africa. He debuted for the Springboks in 2022 and has since earned 29 Test caps, starting eight of them, forming part of this year’s established Bok scrumhalf trio alongside Cobus Reinach and Morné van den Berg.

But his pending departure opens a crucial door for Jaden Hendrikse. The 25-year-old has endured a frustrating season on the Test sidelines, having last played for the Boks in November 2024. With Williams leaving, Hendrikse finally gets a clear runway to reclaim momentum in his career and re-enter national contention.
