Two fatal shootings and police attack in Valhalla Park raise concerns over gang violence

Two people were fatally shot in Valhalla Park, Cape Town, on Wednesday, and law enforcement officers came under attack while responding to one of the crime scenes, the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum (BLCPF) confirmed.

The first shooting occurred in Agste Laan, followed by a second in Hilda Crescent, which appears to have been a retaliatory attack.

“All indications are that there is a turf war presently in that area,” said BLCPF Chairperson Graham Lindhorst.

“Information received is also that the secondary shooting in Hilda Crescent was revenge for the Agste Laan fatal shooting.”

While attending the Agste Laan crime scene, police officers were targeted by attackers, though Lindhorst confirmed that “no LEO were injured.”

He condemned the assaults, saying: “We condemn in the strongest terms these attacks on Law Enforcement Officers and call on the community to come forward with any information that can bring those responsible to book.”

Lindhorst urged authorities to take decisive action, warning that gun violence is a daily threat: “We call on SAPS to do whatever it takes to stabilize the area as Shootings is a daily occurance not only in Valhalla Park but in the Precinct.”

The BLCPF is appealing to residents to assist law enforcement in bringing the perpetrators to justice as gang-related tensions continue to escalate.
