Energy reforms are improving SA’s power supply: Ramaphosa
African National Congress President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is beginning to see improvements in electricity supply, following reforms in the energy sector.
Delivering the keynote address at the ANC’s January 8 gala dinner in the North West on Friday night, Ramaphosa said improved operational performance at Eskom and regulatory changes are contributing to greater energy stability.
He acknowledged ongoing challenges such as load reduction caused by infrastructure strain and illegal connections, but said government interventions are continuing.
Ramaphosa added that increased investment in renewable energy remains central to achieving long-term energy security.
“All this progress is due to the work that is being done and has been done to improve the performance of Eskom, particularly its power stations, as well as the regulatory changes that we have made to enable substantial new investment in renewable energy. A province that is like the hotbed of renewable energy in our country, like the Northern Cape, has seen investments of more than R110 billion in a short space of time.”
