ATNS says air traffic services at OR Tambo Airport fully operational
The Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has confirmed that O.R. Tambo International Airport, east of Johannesburg, is fully operational amid peak travel volumes and forecasts of bad weather.
ATNS says has sufficient staff and operational systems are running smoothly.
The busy airport experienced some flight delays as families return home from the festive holidays.
ATNS spokesperson Mphilo Dlamini says, “As inclement weather conditions are forecasted, ATNS is closely monitoring the conditions and has the necessary operational measures in place to mitigate any potential impact on air traffic operations. Staffing levels across all critical operational areas are adequate. The organisation can also confirm that it has valid operational instrument flight procedures at the airport to enable access and in cases of inadequacies, contingency measures are published to support operations.”
