In Limpopo, heavy rains have resulted in the sighting of stray animals in some parts of Malamulele. They include crocodiles in the residential areas of Makuleke and Mhinga outside Malamulele.
The reptiles are suspected to have escaped from the dams and rivers which are overflowing following the heavy rains.
Environmental authorities say stray animals including hippos are likely to be seen as heavy rains continue. Meanwhile, a woman and her two children who are trapped between the Mutale River and a rivulet are reported to be alive.
A resident of Gwakwani village outside Thohoyandou, Godfrey Nefolovhodwe, says severe weather conditions are hampering rescue efforts.
โIt’s heavily raining, the water is everywhere as I’m speaking now, three people are trapped inside Mutale River, they are still alive. They have been trapped there since yesterday. Itโs cold, itโs raining, the water seems like its rising every minute. The rescue team was there, they say they can’t help as the situation is very tense.โ
