The first twist came quickly. At the blackjack table, Brettski bet small, won big, and stood up immediately. Gasps followed him like a wake. He didn’t press his luck. He never did. He pocketed the chips, nodded once, and vanished into the crowd before the dealer could reshuffle.

Security noticed by the second win. The pit boss noticed by the third. Brettski moved faster, drifting from table to table, casino to casino within the same glittering labyrinth. Every win paid out clean. Every loss was avoided. It wasn’t superstition—it was timing. He waited, watched, and struck only when probability bent in his favor.

Then the casino twisted back.

At a high-limit roulette table, Brettski felt it—the perfect moment. He placed his bet, heart steady. The wheel spun. The ball danced. Red hit, exactly as predicted. Applause broke out. Chips slid toward him like obedient soldiers.

That’s when the dealer froze.

They weren’t there.

Behind him, the roulette wheel began to spin again, by itself, faster and faster, as if the casino had decided to play one final hand.
