Phoenix hero (12) rewarded for returning lost money on his birthday
WHEN 12-year-old Muhammad Hussain found a bundle of money while cycling in his complex, his immediate decision to return it led to community-wide recognition and a special birthday surprise.
Muhammad is currently studying to become a Hafiz, memorising the Qur’an by heart.
His honesty captured the hearts of residents at the Tasvir Mansions, in Longcroft, earning widespread praise from the community and local leadership.
According to the Phoenix Community Police Forum (CPF) Sector 3 executive members, Muhammad discovered a bundle of money while riding his bicycle within the Tasvir Mansions complex.
Rather than keeping it, he immediately sought help from a CPF member to ensure the money was returned to its rightful owner.
A message was promptly shared on the CPF community group for the complex, and within minutes the owner was identified and the lost money was returned to him.
The incident sparked an outpouring of admiration from residents, many of whom commended the boy’s integrity and strong moral values.
The act did not go unnoticed by the community leadership.
Sector 3 chairman Adesh Rampartab, along with his executive members, decided it was important to formally recognise the boy’s honesty.
“This admirable act caught the attention of Adesh and some of his executive members, who felt it was important to reward the young boy – not only for his actions – but also to send a strong message to the community and to other children that no good deed goes unnoticed,” the Sub Forum 3 Executive Members said.
The recognition became even more meaningful as it took place the following day, on Muhammad’s birthday.
He was presented with a “Certificate of Honesty” and a box of chocolates, a gesture that deeply touched both him and his family.
“He and his family were humbled by this recognition, and it truly became the highlight of his day,” the Sub Forum 3 Executive Members added.
Muhammad’s story resonated even further when it was revealed that he is currently studying to become a Hafiz, memorising the Qur’an by heart.
His mother, a widow and single parent, was overwhelmed by the support shown by the community and CPF members.
Several residents, including individuals who did not previously know the family, offered gifts in appreciation of the boy’s honesty.
“This is a powerful reminder of the values we strive to build within our community,” the Sub Forum 3 Executive Members said.
