Goats in a bakkie: Ford Ranger driver in court for possession of suspected stolen animals

A 39-year-old man was arrested after police discovered 26 suspected stolen goats loaded on the back of his vehicle near Sun City in the North West.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the arrest was made shortly after midnight on Thursday, 22 January 2026, during routine crime-prevention patrols along the R556 road.

Officers stopped a “suspicious” Ford Ranger bakkie at the Sun City–Luka four-way stop and found the driver to be the sole occupant of the vehicle. Upon searching the bakkie, police discovered 26 goats loaded at the back.
