The extended Cabinet Lekgotla will end in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon, with its outcomes set to form the basis of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on the 12th of next month.

The two-day meeting was called to discuss plans and priorities for the year, with the focus on growing the economy and improving municipalities.

It also reflected on the milestones and achievements for the country with the 70th celebrations of the 1956 Women’s March on the Union Buildings, the 50th commemoration of the June 16 Soweto Uprisings and the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.

Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says they would use the planned National Dialogue to see if South Africans would want to have their Constitution amended.

“In the country, we are going into the National Dialogue that is going to communities and if South Africans say the current Constitution does not serve them they will make the proposal but we are going to the National Dialogue that we must discuss this beautiful constitution if it still beautiful and if the people of South Africa want it changed then we will have to respond as government of the people.”
