Police launch manhunt for gunmen in gang-related triple murder in Gordon’s Bay

Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for suspects after three men were shot and killed in a late-night attack at Gordon’s Bay Mall, in what authorities believe may be a gang-related incident.

The shooting took place on Tuesday evening at around 9.30pm, when the victims, all believed to be between 40 and 45 years old, were sitting in a vehicle in the mall’s parking area.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says unknown gunmen arrived in a separate vehicle and opened fire on the men before fleeing the scene.

“Official reports indicate that the deceased men were in the parking lot at Gordon’s Bay Mall at approximately 9.30 when unknown gunmen travelling in a vehicle approached them, and shots were fired,” said Potelwa.

“Two victims died inside the vehicle, and another outside the car. The suspects later fled in their vehicle.”

Emergency services declared all three men dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.

Potelwa confirmed that Gordon’s Bay police have opened a triple murder docket and that the investigation is at an early stage.

“Gordon’s Bay police have registered a triple murder docket for investigation. The incident is believed to be gang-related. No one has been arrested yet,” she said.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Helderberg area and raised concerns about violent crime spilling into public spaces such as shopping centres.

Police are now appealing to the public for help in tracking down the suspects.

“Anyone with information that could assist the police investigation is urged to contact the police,” Potelwa said.
