Police launch major crackdown in Durban crime hotspot areas

Police in KwaZulu-Natal have conducted raids in crime hotspots in Durban in a major crackdown on illegal activities.
Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi led the multi-agent operation targeting the Durban CBD and surrounding townships on Friday night.
The operation targeted the Point area as well as Umlazi and KwaMashu.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says several arrests were made during the operation.
“Police shutdown a popular pub which was operating illegally. Its manager, who was in the country illegally, was arrested. There were also suspects who were arrested for being in possession of drugs, possession of a firearm without a license. In Umlazi, a suspect was arrested for obstructing police duties. Several undocumented foreign nationals were also arrested during the operation.”
