Massive crime blitz in Northern Cape leads to over 500 arrests

Over 500 suspects have been arrested in Northern Cape for various offences including murder, attempted murder, burglary and dealing in drugs.
The suspects were apprehended during Operation Shanela across five districts.
Provincial police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says during the operations, large quantities of drugs, counterfeit goods and dangerous weapons, were confiscated.
Money suspected to be the proceeds of crime was also seized.
“Compliance inspections were conducted at liquor outlets, second-hand goods dealers, scrapyards, recyclers, firearm dealers, informal businesses, mines, and farms to ensure adherence to relevant legislation. These inspections resulted in the closure of 16 unlicensed liquor outlets.in total, 576 suspects were arrested for various offences.”
