Motoring pioneers take center stage at the George Old Car Show

Thousands of petrol heads gathered for one of the biggest car shows in the country, the George Old Car Show in the Garden Route region in the Western Cape.

The event has grown into one of the country’s most celebrated motoring exhibitions. It attracts collectors, restorers, and enthusiasts from across the country.

The theme for the 29th edition of the event is “Pioneers of Motoring”.

This year is also the 140th anniversary of the patenting of the first motorcar and Mercedes-Benz’s 100th anniversary.

“What makes the old car show so special is that we have vehicles from the ancestor era right up to 170. And when we look at all the eras of the veterans, the pre-war, the post-war, the classics, this is by far the largest car show going back from 1970, going back in era. And this year there is 1 167 of these beautiful cars on display from all over South Africa,’ says Alewijn Dippenaar, the organiser.
