Two men arrested for extorting money from Limpopo construction firm

Two men have been arrested in Limpopo for allegedly extorting money from a subcontracting company in Lwamondo village.

The suspects, aged 42 and 43, were apprehended after allegedly demanding a 30% share from a construction company working on a WiFi installation project in the Vuwani policing area.

“On Friday, at approximately 11am, members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit received a complaint about four suspects who disrupted a construction project installing WiFi infrastructure,” said the South African Police Service (Saps).

The suspects were reportedly driving a Toyota Hilux bakkie with Limpopo registration numbers and threatened to halt the project if their demands were not met.

Police acted on the information, tracked down the suspects, located them, and arrested them.

The vehicle used in the alleged extortion was also seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

The two arrested men are expected to appear in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Monday on extortion charges.

“The remaining two suspects are still at large, and the investigation continues,” added the police.

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit and the Thohoyandou Tactical Response Team (TRT) to clamp down on criminal activity in the province.
