Man arrested for murder and attempted murder in Ntambanana family attack
Ntambanana police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested and charged a 35-year-old man for murder and attempted murder following a family attack on January 5 in the Bhuchanan area.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu, the suspect allegedly shot and stabbed his 61-year-old sister to death in her home.
“His 21-year-old niece was also shot in the upper body but was taken to the hospital for treatment. A three-month-old baby, present during the attack, was unharmed,” she said.
The niece later identified her uncle as the attacker. The suspect was arrested, and police seized his firearm. Captain Ndlovu stated that the uncle has already appeared at the Ngwelezane Magistrate’s Court, and the case has been remanded pending the next court date.
Meanwhile, KZN police are still searching for the suspects responsible for killing four family members on December 31 in the Mdweshule area, within the Mehlomyama policing precinct.
Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza reported that a witness described three unknown males carrying firearms and one holding a bush knife who first killed a 45-year-old man.
“The suspects allegedly kicked open the door of the Rondavel where the man was with his fiancée and demanded money. When told there was no money, they shot the 45-year-old man,” he stated.
The suspects then forced the witness to guide them to other family members. At the main house, they shot and killed a mother and her two daughters, aged between 31 and 67. The perpetrators fled the scene after stealing two cellphones, Lt. Colonel Magwaza explained.
