Bok heavyweights dominate awards shortlist

SA Rugby has unveiled its 2025 awards nominees, with five Springboks vying for the top prize.
World Rugby Player of the Year Malcolm Marx will go head-to-head with four of his Springbok team-mates for the honour.
Marx, who claimed the global accolade last year, headlines a heavyweight Men’s Player of the Year shortlist that also includes Pieter-Steph du Toit, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Ox Nche and Jasper Wiese – underlining the depth and dominance of the reigning world champions.

SA Rugby confirmed the nominees across nine major categories, with winners to be announced in due course following voting by media representatives and national team coaching staff.
Du Toit, a former winner of both SA Rugby and World Rugby’s top awards, returns to the shortlist alongside Nche, while Feinberg-Mngomezulu caps a breakthrough year that saw him named in World Rugby’s 2025 Dream Team. Wiese, meanwhile, earns his first nomination after a standout season in green and gold.
The future of South African rugby is equally well represented, with four of the five Young Player of the Year nominees having already featured at Test level in 2025. Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Ethan Hooker, Canan Moodie and Zachary Porthen are joined by Junior Bok star Haashim Pead, who played a key role in South Africa’s World Rugby U20 Championship triumph.
Pead also earns a nomination for Junior Springbok Player of the Year, alongside Riley Norton and Cheswill Jooste.
