Two foreign nationals arrested for brutal triple murder in Meqheleng



Two foreign nationals have been arrested in connection with a brutal triple murder in Meqheleng, near Ficksburg, after a swift police manhunt that led to their capture within 24 hours of the killings.

The South African Police Service confirmed that the suspects, aged 26 and 29, were taken into custody following an intelligence-led, multidisciplinary operation launched immediately after the incident, which occurred on the night of Friday, 16 January 2026.

According to police, one of the suspects was intercepted at a local taxi rank while allegedly attempting to flee South Africa to a neighbouring country. The second suspect was tracked down by Anti-Gang Unit members and found hiding inside a house in Meqheleng.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the triple murder remain unclear, and police have not yet established a motive. Investigations into the incident are continuing.

The two men are expected to appear in the Meqheleng Magistrate’s Court soon, where they will face charges of murder.

Police have urged members of the public who may have information related to the case to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
