Over 3 000 IEC stations available for voter registration in Limpopo
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Limpopo says more than 3 000 permanent stations and over 100 temporary stations will be operational in the province during voter registration this weekend.
The Provincial Electoral Officer, Nkaro Mateta, says they are targeting about 100 000 eligible voters to register.
Mateta says the IEC has increased the number of registration stations ahead of this year’s local government elections to improve accessibility for voters.
“Over the two days and weekend, if we reach 100,000, we would have performed quite well. We are hoping that by the time the CEO certifies the voters’ roll, at least our voters’ roll will be around three million registered voters. That will be our pride that young people are really hearing our message and the impact we are making is translated into them coming forward to register.”
Mateta has encouraged all eligible voters to arrive on time at their registration stations.
“All 3 317 registration stations comprising 3 185 permanent stations and 182 temporary stations will operate from 8:00 hours to 17:00 hours. Sekhukhune district has the highest number of registration stations at 772, followed closely by Vhembe.”
