Five Emfuleni employees arrested for fraud, infrastructure tampering
Five Emfuleni Municipality employees have been arrested by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in Gauteng for alleged fraud, theft and tampering with essential infrastructure.

The suspects, attached to the municipality’s Revenue and Electrical Departments, allegedly took payments directly into their bank accounts to reconnect electricity supply that had been disconnected.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the illegal reconnections resulted in electricity theft and financial losses for the municipality.

Mathe says the five are expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
“The Gauteng PKTT will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that those who abuse their positions for personal financial gain are held accountable. The five arrested suspects are expected to make their first appearance in court on Monday, 24 August 2026. The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated.”
