Gauteng positions itself as a year-round tourism destination
Gauteng is positioning itself as a year-round tourism destination; a new strategy is linking tourism, heritage, transport, events and township experiences.
The province says it wants major sporting, cultural and lifestyle events to lead to increased visitor spending that can create greater economic opportunities for communities.
This comes as Gauteng marks Tourism and Heritage Month, which is usually a busy spring season.
Gauteng Tourism Authority spokesperson Barba Gaoganediwe says, “Gauteng is using Tourism and Heritage Month, Spring and Transport Month to showcase the province as a connected destination. The campaign is aimed at attracting more visitors, increasing tourism spending, and highlighting the content problems, diverse experiences from heritage sites and township tourism to major sporting and lifestyle events. While inviting the visitors and residents to discover routes this spring, whether it’s our heritage attractions, vibrant nightlife, major sporting events, or our golden township.”
