Maimane urges Treasury to cushion consumers against fuel increase
Build One SA leader, Doctor Mmusi Maimane, says the National Treasury must make all efforts to cushion struggling consumers from the latest fuel increase.
Maimane held a media briefing in Parliament, ahead of the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement next week.
Since last week, petrol costs are just under R30 a litre at the coast, while inland prices have crossed the R30 mark.
Maimane explains how his party expects Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to throw consumers a lifeline during his speech next week.
“BOSA calls on the R10 billion special appropriation earmarked for fuel relief to be used to cut the general fuel levy by R3 per litre for the month of November. We are all clear that the geopolitics are such that the world is a fairly unstable place. And as a result of that, it then becomes important that a government shields its citizens from heavy inflation,” says Maimane.
