KZN woman's body recovered after her car was swept off the Stapleton Road bridge

A woman believed to be in her 50s has died after her car swept off the Stapleton Road bridge in Pinetown on Thursday night.

According to ALS Paramedics, the vehicle was located at 2 am on Friday morning.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency workers had to call off the search at around 11 pm on Thursday due to the raging river.

“By 2 am, emergency workers started the search again and the car was located.

“The car was recovered in Gordon Road and a female was found who had sustained fatal injuries and she was declared deceased on scene.”

Jamieson said the car was torn apart.

He said the river had subsided quite substantially.

“Emergency workers are recovering the car and Gordon Road has been closed to traffic.”

Jamieson said they have received multiple calls of water-logged roads in and around eThekwini and urged motorists to leave early or stay off the roads if necessary.
