Motive for murder of WSU Deputy VC remains unclear: Masemola – SABC News
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says the motive for the murder of Walter Sisulu University Deputy Vice-Chancellor remains unclear.
Sinethemba Mpambane was killed in a hail of bullets outside the institution’s Mthatha campus yesterday.
The university’s Mthatha campus has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons.
In late April, third-year student Sisonke Mbolekwa was fatally shot allegedly by the residence manager, who has since been granted bail by the local magistrate’s court.
Masemola says they have established a special team to investigate the murder.
“We have established an investigation team comprising of multi-disciplinary teams of CI, Serious and Violent Crime units. We need to find out what was the cause of this shooting and the motive behind it. Currently, we don’t know the motive. It doesn’t look like they took anything. Because his laptop was found in the car. His cellphones were also found in the car. So, surely the motive can’t be robbery, it’s something else. Because nothing was taken from him. That’s how far we are. But we are looking at all angles in terms of the investigation.”
