Cannabis worth R289,000 seized in Springbok


Police in the Northern Cape have seized hydroponic cannabis valued at more than R289,000 in Springbok.

Officers from the Highway Patrol and K9 units acted on information about a suspicious parcel at a courier outlet.

The package, believed to have been sent from Durban, was intended for collection in Springbok.

Police spokesperson Ivan Magerman says the drugs were discovered during an inspection.

“This was evident when in the swift action by the Springbok Highway Patrol and Springbok K9 units, which resulted in the confiscation of a substantial amount of hydroponic cannabis on Monday, 20 April 2026 at approximately 12:40,” said Magerman.

“Reacting to information received about a suspicious package that emitted a strong odour of cannabis at a local Paxi company. Upon inspection, the package was found to contain one large plastic bag filled with hydroponic cannabis,” he added.

No arrests have been made, and police say investigations are ongoing.
