Husband arrested in chilling KwaDukuza murder investigation
An intensive investigation led by KwaDukuza police detectives, in collaboration with private security, has resulted in the arrest of two men in connection with the murder of a local woman found dead inside a vehicle.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of June 27, when 31-year-old Nokulunga Happiness Mashabane was discovered along Zinkwazi Link Road, with fatal gunshot wounds to the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the KwaDukuza Municipality employee’s death sent shockwaves through the community, prompting the police to mobilise a dedicated team of investigators determined to seek justice.
Over the course of a month, the team examined numerous leads and evidence, ultimately leading to the identification and arrest of two suspects on Wednesday, July 30.
The suspects, aged 32 and 26, are set to appear before the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 1.
Major General Anthony Gopaul, the Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, commended the investigative team’s diligence and expertise.
“The combination of SAPS specialised skills, our E2 partners and forensics teams, as well as effective crime scene management, is what led to the arrest of these ruthless suspected murderers,” he stated.
Gopaul further highlighted the sobering reality of gender-based violence in South Africa, lamenting the betrayal by those who are meant to protect and love women. “
It is heartbreaking when those who are meant to love and protect women become monsters that snatch away their lives and futures,” he added.
