Mother of the child seen smoking mandrax, co-accused case postponed – SABC News

The case against a woman and three others accused of encouraging a toddler to smoke what is believed to be the drug, mandrax, has been postponed to Thursday at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

In a video that went viral on social media, a four-year-old boy is seen being urged to light the pipe, said to be laced with mandrax and take several puffs.

The group is facing charges of child neglect, child abuse and attempted murder.

The accused have been able to secure legal aid for representation in court.

Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says the state still needs to verify the residential addresses of the accused.

“We don’t have much information about the accused who are before court. You’ll recall that amongst the issues that are outstanding in terms of the investigation is their profiles. So, you will have much information once they have been profiled and their address have been verified. So, the court has given us until Thursday the 7th to finalise such investigations.”
