Gauteng begins mass measles-Rubella vaccination drive on Tuesday – SABC News

The Gauteng Department of Health will launch a Measles-Rubella Mass Vaccination Campaign from Tuesday until 12 September. It says this is in response to the ongoing measles outbreak in the province.

Gauteng recorded over 370 confirmed cases since January.

The campaign aims to vaccinate over 4 million children aged 6 months to 15 years across all five health districts.

The campaign will launch at Steve Biko Primary School in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

“We are calling on parents, guardians, and caregivers to sign and return consent forms distributed through the schools and creches to allow children to be immunized. Vaccination or immunization is safe, free, and it’s proven to prevent severe complications and disabilities associated with measles and rubella,” says Department Spokesperson Motalatale Modiba.
