Amantle’s alleged killer to plead guilty to avoid long trial: Lawyer – SABC News
The lawyer for the man accused of raping and murdering six-year-old Amantle Samane says he will plead guilty on Friday to avoid wasting the court’s time.
Pethe Simiao, a Mozambique national appeared in the High Court in Johannesburg this morning.
He is facing charges of kidnapping, rape, murder and contravention of the Immigration Act.
The accused was arrested in Soweto in October last year after the little girl’s body was found in his shack.
The accused had abandoned his bail application in previous court appearances.
The Defence Counsel, Adv Ndivhuwo Masindi says, “All counts that he is facing now, we are going to plead guilty and today we were supposed to proceed with a guilty plea but unfortunately there’s another matter proceeding in court. So, we adjourned this matter until Friday, that is when we’re going to read all the charges on record. He decided that he does not want to waste the courts time by doing a long trial.”
