The week ahead will be dominated by dangerous ocean conditions as the South African Weather Service issues a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive waves along the northern and western Cape coastline.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), Thursday will see mostly fine and cool weather across much of the country. Warm conditions are expected in parts of Limpopo and the North West, while Johannesburg and Pretoria enjoy mild sunshine with cooler breezes.

Rain chances remain limited, with a 30% chance of isolated showers brushing the southwestern coast, including parts of the Western Cape.

By Friday, August 22, similar conditions persist inland with fine and partly cloudy skies dominating. However, the coastline begins to feel the full force of an approaching system.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive waves, expected to peak between 4 and 6 metres, with some reaching up to 7 metres from Cape Point to Plettenberg Bay.

Winds between 50 and 65 km/h, gusting up to 75 km/h, will churn up rough seas, raising the risk of damage to small harbours and coastal infrastructure.

The weekend promises more of the same, relatively stable inland weather with cool mornings, warm afternoons in the north, and unsettled conditions along the Cape coast.

Swells and strong winds will continue into Sunday, making navigation dangerous for small vessels and creating hazardous beach conditions.

As the week unfolds, the focus will be on the southern coastline where the sea will put on a dramatic show. Inland, residents can look forward to largely dry skies but should keep warm as cooler temperatures settle in overnight.
