Mkhwanazi warns of total collapse of criminal justice system – SABC News

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has warned of a total collapse in the criminal justice system.

Mkhwanazi made the comments at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria where he has been called as the first witness.

The commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July following corruption allegations made by Mkhwanazi within the criminal justice system.

Mkhwanazi says there should be some intervention in the criminal justice system to avert the collapse.

“The criminal justice system has been subject to a criminal threat as well as sabotage which has been with us within an extended period. To a point where we believe that it is at a real risk of a total collapse if nothing is done. Therefore, an urgent and effective intervention is required in order to avert this political outcome. And I believe this commission will stand to play a very important role in order to help us to prevent this total collapse of the justice system within our country.”
