Fire at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital extinguished – SABC News
Johannesburg Emergency Services say a fire broke out that the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital just after midday on Monday.
Unconfirmed reports claim a patient on the ninth floor set a bed mattress on fire and then locked themselves in the toilet.
Emergency Services Spokesperson Kagiso Phasha says the fire has since been extinguished.
This comes as the hospital is still recovering from the 2021 fire that gutted several of its sections.
Phasa says the cause of the fire is being investigated.
“On arrival, the fire crews confirmed that the fire had already been extinguished before their arrival. We can confirm that no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation”
