KZN drivers must switch to new number plates by December 1 or risk fines

KwaZulu-Natal drivers, this one’s for you!

The KZN Department of Transport has issued a firm reminder that drivers must convert to the new numbering system as failure to comply may result in hefty fines.

According to the department, customers have until November 30, 2025 to migrate to the new system,” Transport MEC, Siboniso Duma, told the Independent on Saturday.

Time is ticking

The Mercury previously reported that the changes to the new licence numbering system are prompted by the fact that some of the towns have run out of numbers.

At the time of the campaign launch, then-KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube said the new numbering system would come with improved security features, which would assist in the fight against crime.

She added that this paradigm shift is important to ensure that KwaZulu-Natal is in alignment with other provinces and the national numbering system.
