ANC endorses Gigaba’s decision to step aside, citing party rules – SABC News

The African National Congress (ANC) has thanked Malusi Gigaba for stepping aside from his official responsibilities, saying it shows discipline, maturity and revolutionary consciousness.
Gigaba, a former NEC member and Public Enterprises, has been charged with corruption related to a multi-billion-rand locomotives tender at Transnet and appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg alongside four co-accused on Tuesday.
Currently, Gigaba is a member of Parliament and co-chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence.
In a statement, the party says Gigaba’s move is in line with the step aside rule resolved on at its 55th National Conference and is not a presumption of guilt but a responsible organisation measure to safeguard public confidence while legal processes unfold.
