INFOGRAPHIC | Key facts about the G20’s 19 Members – SABC News
Thousands of international delegates, media representatives, and heads of state from the G20 and other invited countries are expected to gather in Johannesburg for the two-day Leaders’ Summit at the Nasrec Expo Centre on 22–23 November 2025. This marks the first time the event will be hosted in South Africa and on the African continent.
South Africa assumed the Group of Twenty (G20) Presidency from December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2025, as the only African country that is a member of the G20.
The 19th G20 Summit hosts 19 of the world’s top economies, which control 85 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP), including major powers – the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and Germany (known as the G7). South Africa, with its GDP at US$426 billion with an unemployment rate of 31.9 percent, will be hosting 18 countries that control GDPs of multiple trillions of dollars, with single-digit unemployment rates.
With its theme of solidarity, equality, and sustainability, South Africa’s key priorities for its G20 Presidency will be to reduce inequality, promote inclusive economic growth, ensure food security, harness artificial intelligence for development, manage debt sustainability, mobilise climate finance, and leverage critical minerals for sustainable development.
