Batohi to continue testimony at Nkabinde Inquiry

The National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi will continue to testify before the Nkabinde Inquiry in Pretoria on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, Batohi accused suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke, of acting outside his prosecutorial jurisdiction.

The inquiry is investigating allegations that Chauke protected politically connected people and mishandled high-profile cases.

Advocate Batohi referred to how Chauke handled the death squad allegations against the Cato Manor Police Unit in KwaZulu-Natal.

“I say it in the context of Advocate Chauke’s assertion that he was a mere coordinator, which suggests thathe  set out what his role entails. It seems to convey the impression that he was not involved intimately with the investigation and the prosecution of this matter. So, what I am saying is that this is one indication that is not correct. Perhaps I can address it this way, a decision to take the matter on appeal is also a prosecutorial decision.”
